Default Auction Disaster

Car Plows Through Ga. Auto Auction Crowd, Injuring 28
Wednesday, February 17, 2010

Authorities say as many as 28 people may have been injured Tuesday night after a car plowed through the crowd at an auto auction in North Georgia.

Gilmer County sheriff Stacy Nicholson said at least 12 people were critically injured and another 16 were "walking injured" after the accident, which happened at about 8.15 p.m. at the Blue Ridge Auto Auction, in Ellijay.

Gilmer County Lt. Frank Copeland said the auction features a large building where cars are rolled through for an audience to bid. Authorities said dealers were placing bets on a Volvo when the automobile rammed into the crowd. Georgia State Patrol is investigating. A spokesman was not in the office Tuesday night and did not immediately return an e-mail.

Copeland said five of the victims were flown to several hospitals, while others were transported by ambulance.

"placing bets on a Volvo"

I'll bet that was supposed to read "placing bids on a Volvo"

I don't think anyone would place a bet on a Volvo.

I would place a bet on a Volvo racing a Subaru Justy.

Audi had the sudden acceleration problem in the 80s.

Audi/Volvo and "sudden acceleration" don't go together

I had to drive a full out Corvette race car through the Mecum Bloomington Gold Auction in June and I was more than a bit scared in that beast. It was a full road race car with an "on/off" clutch. I had visions of the event being on U-Tube or some other site if I screwed up.

You can say that again. I test drove a new Volvo wagon when the kids were small, what a PIG, it couldn't get out of its own way.

The Audi 5000 was the one that ran down kids in a driveway.
We also had one try and drive off the ferry while we were underway.

Yeah, the 5000 fwd auto cars had the problem. Brake and accelerator pedal too close and people would begin to brake and suddenly hit the accelerator upexpetedly.

I'll take exceltion about Audi's not accelerating. I'm into 1980's quattro cars. Pike's Peak records, Uncer and the "unfair advantage", Audi's Sport quattro for vintage stuff. Heck, it sure didn't have it in the looks department, so for $75,000 in 1985 these better have accelerated!

They have plenty of moden S cars with twin turbos, V10 , supercahrgers etc.
