-----What a week, Andy!!! Now "Long Gone" appears. I originally tracked it down as a favor to Bob H back in 1991/92. I have known it was around but now its up for grabs. Boyd Coddington restored it once and then got sued over the resto costs. I think its been re-restored now. I can fill in the holes on this peice of history too........Bill S

Bill,
It seems you've had your hands on just about every cool car out there in one way or another!! That car is SO COOL I remember there were some pictures of the car that went along with Red Alert.. They had another similar one at Mecum that I was drooling all over. Ive got a feeling it will bring way more than my empty check book has in it.

------Long Gone was the 11th Holman-Moody SOHC Mustang. I was told by Bob that H-M was contracted to build 10 and he heard about the project from a connection at Ford. He wangled an 11th one out of H-M by going to Larsen Ford and picking out a Poppy Red 65 fastback and driving it down to H-M for conversion. Bob told me that two weeks later he picked up his purpose built 427 Mustang. All 11 initially had 427FEs, but SOHCs would be provided after full development. This was alright with Bob as he knew how to make FEs run, and the car ran really well out of the box. Ford mandated that he use the SOHC when shipped to him although he didnt initially want to. The SOHC in Bobs eyes was an untried item and he wasnt happy doing development when he felt he already had a potent package. He did anyway and ultimatly had few problems winning all up and down the east coast. I have a clipping where Bob bested Jack Werst in his 65 Hemi that Jack says never happened,,,LOL!!!! I believe Tom has a great picture of Bob behind the wheel of Long Gone when it was injected.........Bill S

That's a very cool and neat altered wheelbase H-M Mustang but it really needs the correct magnesium Americans to replace those new style aluminum versions. They look terrible on there.

-----Mark,,,Didnt look all that close at the pics before I typed up that last note. Wheels do look way bad, dont they. Last pics I saw a couple of years ago had the car in carburetor livery too. The injection is cool! Its like someone finally saw the same pic I gave Tom and wanted the car more authentic. Wonder if the injection is all computered up???.........Bill S
