Default My National Lampons Christmas tree experience!

All,

I got home from work today and Marcia wanted to go and get our Christmas tree. That was fine, so off we go to a tree farm a co-worker told her about. You cut your own! So we drive about 40 minutes up Rt-40 past the Schaghticoke far grounds. We find the farm and they have a wagon to take you up the side of this mountain. Did I mention it was like 25 degrees not including the wind chill factor? So they tell me they have 1,000 trees and if I have a 4x4 truck I can drive up the side of this mountain. Then they ask what size tree I am looking for I say 6-8 feet. So they tell me where to go and hand me a bow saw. So we go off four wheeling up the side of the mountain to this shack and the owner comes out and tells me where the small tree's are then say's if I would like to cut down a big tree for the top that would be fine also. So off we go looking at the 20+ feet Christmas trees. Yep we find one! I cut the dam thing down with a bow saw! If I only new I would of brought my chain saw. In the one picture it is the base of the tree we left behind, my son Zachary and daughter Marisa are sitting in the middle of it. Not to mention I left 6 Feet still standing in the ground. I cut it down to around 9-10 feet knowing I would have to trim some for our 8 foot ceilings. Well when it was all said and done, I had to trim a lot off the top to get it to clear the ceiling. It is definitely a day we will remember as a family!! We now have a Christmas tree ball. When the branches fall we have some more trimming to do !!!

Enjoy the pictures!

Thats a great memory for your kids.. I remember being little my Dad and Mom doing the same thing. My dad would borrow my uncle's truck, who was a construction worker, and we would head out to the Blue Spruce Tree Farm and cut down our favorite tree... It was very exciting every year..

We used to do the same thing with another family who had kids the same age as mine. Then for a few years we actually dug up 4' to 5' White Pine trees, brought them home as root ball bundles, and kept them in the house for a week. Usually a day or two after Christmas we would take them to the unheated garage for a two or three day acclimation, then replant them in the yard. We had better than 75% survival rate and still have four of them in the yard. Storms and disease got to some of them but one is now over 30 feet tall.
