Anyone here of this dealer??? Know any info. or people that may have worked there...I just got back in the country and searched my papers. My fathom green JL-8 Z that is in "auto body and paint carnapping in another thread" was sold new at this dealership...supposedley also on the dealer's lot at the time they had a red Z with x-ram and headers in the trunk at the same time. Was this dealer know for high performance cars??? Thanks, Max

Freidly was the big player in the Cedar Falls Waterloo area at that time. They were a Yenko network dealer in 69. Lotta hipo stuff came outta there. I've not heard of the dealer you refer to, although the area was well large enough for more than one dealer. The info I've been told is that in 69 nothing came "in the trunk". It had to come from the parts dept.FWIW

Thanks....hope someone knows someone from back then....Ive got my fingers crossed....apparently the car had one small(5") star painted/airbrushed? on the upper q.p. on each side at some point early on...I would have never known but a prior owner asked if they were there and I can still see evidence of them now that I know where to look....
Ive spoken a few times with the original owner's brother who said he went with the original owner when he bought the car new... he stated that there were 2 cars in the showroom, mine and a red Z...the red car having the x-ram sitting in the trunk... I'm certain the x-ram came from the parts department, but I assume they were marketing the car with the parts included..and apparently separate....He also said that his brother picked the JL-8 car because they knew they could go back and buy the x-ram separate later on....and he said that the Edelbrock x-ram worked better anyway and costed less than the GM init...I assume he is probably right...?? Thanks, Max |

Max,
I am familiar with "Schukei Chevrolet", in Mason City Iowa. They were one of the accounts for our Dealership consulting services business http://www.schukei.com/. I can tell you that they did have some very high performance minded personnel working there. Mostly in the parts and service department. I have seen a few very special Hi-Po Muscle cars sold out of there. One special Car which comes to mind and if my memory serves, is the 1969 427 L72 Wagon a.k.a. The Lead Sled, which was ordered and sold new from there. |

Old age is a bitch. Just ask Cumby. There was also a Schukei Motor Company in Waterloo Ia. It is now called Rydell Chevrolet. They were the ones which actually sold 'The Led Sled" as well as the Silver JL8 Z28, noted in Jerry MacNeishe's book, page 114.

HI MAX, I HAVE A JL8 THAT WAS SOLD NEW AT KEN COWDEN CHEVROLET IN LESLIE, MI.. I ALSO HAVE A 69 Z THAT WAS ORIGINALLY SOLD AT SCHUKEI CHEVROLET IN WATERLOO, IA. BOTH CARS HAVE ORIGINAL DEALER PROTECTO-PLATES. WOULD BE NICE IF SCHUKEI CHEV'S DEALER INVOICES STILL EXISTED AT RYDELL CHEVROLET.

Wow,
I had the chance to buy a 1969 Z-28 about fifteen years ago when the original owner's widow put it in Hemmings for $16,500. It was Cortez Silver and only had 24,000 miles on it. The car was sold through Schukei Motor Company as well. The Z-28 was eight miles from where I lived(Wilton, CT) and I was the first one there. I have a copy of the window sticker showing the 5JL8KQ option at a price of $500.30. Wish I had that kind of money back then. She sold it for $16,000. The car resides in Connecticut. Just noticed the mention of this Z-28 by Stefano above! I was the one who sent Jerry a copy of the window sticker. Dave |
