A friend has ordered a new SS/RS Camaro..
Being the Oshawa plant is less than an hour away and he has family/friends who work on the assembly line we were discussing what could be done or would be worth doing to make this car different/better than it's assembly line brothers?. Not looking for suggestions of adding options not paid for or anything like that...more seeking thoughts/ideas like the following and if these are worth doing or not?. - Build documents/paperwork saved at each assembly station.. - Pictures of the car/parts on the line/being assembled.. - Underhood/other area Signatures of 'some' line workers?. Any good ideas?. ![]() ~ Pete -------------------- I like real cars best...the REAL real ones! |

That shot is from the GenAuto Shippers lot west of the truck plant, which you can see in the background. Here the cars get loaded onto trains and trucks for delivery. They frown on Cameras in the plant. Getting whatever paperwork would be neat though. If you contacted the right people, you might be allowed into some parts of the plant with a guide. I took my wife on the full fifty cent truck plant tour the night I retired. In the past, they have had a couple of open house tours for the general public. It might be a good idea, especially these days, if they did a little PR work and had an open house again. A lot of things have changed since the last tour. Might just clear up a few mis-conceptions about the place as well.

My 2 cents. I'm thinking a part not meant for that car. Like a V6 only part on an SS. Ya know something added or deleted when it should not have been

Any pics taken in the plant are pre-approved so that sensitive material can be removed from the shot. Any employee caught taking a picture within the grounds of the plant and in the plant get immediately dismissed. Very sensitive about this since the electrician took a few pics of the pre assembled Camaro 2 years ago. The buildsheets were being tossed into waste baskets but I have asked someone in the plant to "save the planet" and tuck all of them in the car. I believe we should start seeing them under the carpet shortly. ![]() Signed cars have already occured on a few cars (check underneath Rick Hendricks trunklid if you have the opportunity. Don't see a reason whay it can't be done again.

Thanks Hylton!.
Bummer on the pics, cool on the signatures thing and really great you've got them stashing the build sheets in the cars!. Do you think a line worker could install black mirrors on a different color car, would it look Ok and make it through unnoticed?. ![]() ~ Pete

There are so many checks and re-checks in place that you would not be able to get away with something like that. It's nothing like how things were years ago when you could have asked your buddy to paint your Camaro with an exclusive Impala color (built at the same plant). Just this week, they had run out of the wheels which go on the V6 RS cars. They built the cars anyways, putting other incorrect factory wheels on them and then set those cars aside until the proper wheels came in to change them over. This way they don't disrupt production plans and keep things moving while still ensuring that you get what you;re supposed to get. Years ago, they may have sent the car out with the SS wheels because they are a slightly lighter shade of silver then the RS wheels. Some of the early CTF and dealers cars which have been built over the last 10 weeks are "one offs" in the sense that they have incorrect options on them. I saw a non RS with RS tail lights and there are a few cars with incorrect colored wheels on them.
