Default From the pres., SCR13

Just rolled in from SCR13. Great weather…cool cars…and best of all…friends and family.

Thursday evening a thunderstorm passed through, so not much going on with the cars, just lots of visiting..

Friday at the track, perfect weather with moderate temps, low humidity, slight breeze and sunny. Thanks to the weather, even though we were running into a slight head wind, the cars were turning some impressive times. Had some breakage, mainly due to folks trying to go quicker (slicks, more HP, etc), but nothing too serious. With the help of other racers, most were up and going before leaving the track.

Friday evening at the banquet Bob Lionberger spoke about Fred Gibb, the dealership and the cars, which everyone really enjoyed. Bob McClurg shared a couple of stories, one you had to be there to appreciate.

The weather was perfect on Saturday, the outdoor show was the best yet. Inside was a mix of regulars and first timers, all having a good time. As usual, a wide variety of supercars, new and old.

As far as our cars, after a couple of shakedown passes with our newest acquisition, a 1970 Yenko Deuce, which we finished up as it rolled into the trailer Wednesday, ran a 10.77 @ 122.99, backed up by a couple of 10.8s. Red Alert put down some 10.8s, best ever. Our 2010 Yenko Camaro, right out of the trailer, fresh from a “tune” at Nickey Chicago, ran a 11.75.

As usual at the SCR, Everyone seemed to have had a good time, I know the Clary family did. Cannot wait until we do it again at SCR14.

A big THANK YOU to all who brought cars, and to those who pitched in to make the SCR13 just as special as the first 12.

Thanks to Dennis B., Stefano and the rest of the Nickey crew for not only getting our ’10 Camaro “tuned’ a tad more, but for getting it to the SCR.

Kind of cool that the car is a Yenko, built by NickeyChicago and just tuned by at Berger Chevrolet.

Thanks to Doug P. and Dave M. for helping me acquire our Deuce, Schonye and Cumby for the stripes, Marlin for Deuce info, Rob Cat and Mo for helping me get it back together in time for the SCR, Hood Performance for the awesome 355CI engine, and Mr. Dent and his staff for paint and body work.

Bob's presentation was pretty special to a lot of people in the room. I wish Helen & Nancy could have been there. I know they would have been proud of Bob.

Can't speak for everyone but I know I enjoyed the three days, and most of the folks I spent time with seemed to be having fun. This is still a unique event and I look forward to SCR14.

In 1971 when I was going with the girl who would some day be the 1st lady, I would take my yellow deuce to her folks place in Alpha IL. We'd go out and party with the locals in the area, and they would alway talk about how they would go to Fred Gibbs for their performance parts. Little did I know that many years later, I'd be sitting in a room listening to that parts man talk about those days.
Amazing how life takes you down some paths.

It was indeed a great weekend. The cars, the people and even the weather. An awesome weekend!

Once again my hat is off to the Clary family for putting it all together and also to Stefano and the crew for sponsoring the event.

Looking forward to many more!
