Default Change in philosophy - think I'm pleased

I have been a Day II lover for a lot of years, but I guess I have now turned to the Dark Side. After ten years I recently removed the Hooker Headers, the Dynomax Super Turbo mufflers and 3” stainless pipe front to back. In its place is a Concours Chambered system from Gardner.

What a sweet setup. Installation and fit was very good. Most of the time was spent on alignment front to back and twisting the mufflers to where I wanted them to be. The resonators tuck up in the quarter real nice. My only disappointment is I would like to have the chrome tips a little farther out the back. Not stuck way out as I don’t like that look, but an extra half inch or so would be nice. They are currently about one inch past the back lower round lip of the bumper. Maybe that’s where they are supposed to be, I don’t really know. The parameters for front to back adjustments just won’t allow any more movement to the rear. What I found interesting, and I don’t know why, is the tailpipes are not symmetrical to each other. Must be a reason I guess.

At idle the sound seems a bit louder than before. Cruising at speed I think it is actually a little quieter. Overall it’s gone from a “tinny” sound (headers?) to a nice good rumble

The one picture on the hoist is all I had and is unfortunately not the best quality.

Thanks to Rick for some prior installation hints.

With any luck the harrassment from Bill Rose will now end

Many of the performance guys say the Chambered system is more restrictive and opt for the normal set-up. Maybe true, but the sweet, throaty sound from the Chambered system always made me smile.

Nice Choice Don!

Nice...You'll get spoiled with the sound over time, and want every vehicle you drive to have it.
I've noticed the same thing on other cars and fixed my tip length by cutting the removable tips down 1-1/2" and setting the table @ a 45 degree angle with a band saw, cleaning up the cut with a beltsander, then having them rechromed again @ my local plater. That also removed the after market bevel cut as well.
Using NOS 40 year old tips didn't help,as the problem is the tailpipe to resonator position.
Looks great Don.

Hey Don,
Car looks super sharp back to original.
Welcome to the chambered exhaust Club.
There is nothing that sounds better.
I have the GM units on my LS6 70 Chevelle.
Even though they did not come on the 70 Chevelle, i will leave them on there as the sound is very unique and there is nothing that sounds as nasty as chambers at idle or when you gun it.
I also have a set of NOS GM Chambered Exhaust as spares sitting at home.
Enjoy the sounds and cruising.
