Default Armadillo in Iowa

Dad has had a pretty busy day today. Someone should ask him about his visitor from the south.

Well, for those of you who don't know, Armadillos are not native to IA. So when Joe called and said there was a dead one at the entrance of the ball park I had to investigate. Sure enough it was. So I tossed him ( I think a him) in the pick up and take it down to Cronkleton's dads garage where all the old timers hang out. Now everybodies gettin real excited cause last year the IA, DNR finally fessed up and said we had Cougars in IA., now we have armadillos.
So I called a friend with the US fish and wild life services and told him. He said they've been moving North, but this was the first he'd heard of them being this far North.
So then I called my news guy at the North Scot press about it and he says bring it over, we need a picture of this. So we go over to Eldridge and Cambell says hold that bad boy up and I'll get a picture of the two of you for the press. (front page I expect).
After that I stopped by John Glenn elementary here in Donahue and asked if the kids would like to see an Armadillo. At that point, the principal said where did you come up with that? So I told her the story, and pretty soon all the kids from K through 6th were coming out to see the Armadillo.
So now I have him stuffed in my burn pile letting the bugs take care of the soft stuff, then figure some one will want to make a helmet outta the shell.
Just another day in paradise. (big smile)
The Mayor

I do not think they are native to Missouri either, but we about to get over ran by them. The only use we have found for them is target practice.

No Armadillos in Illinois. The Unicorns run them off.

Wow....Armadillos in Iowa! I remember what a big deal they were in the St. Louis area when they first started showing up on the outskirts of St. Louis back in the '90's! They're still kinda rare and you don't see them very often, but they are are definitely here.
