Would a 70 SS have orange overspray on the bellhousing and ex? Thanks!

It really depends on the painter as the engine was coming down the line. The bellhousing was installed on all Tonawanda big blocks when they were painted. Some have very little, some are about a 4" band and many are painted entirely. Just depends. The shift fork (sans boot) and the inspection cover would also have overspray on it. I have had a couple original cars in the shop here where the inspection cover was not painted and there was paint overspray on the ring gear however.

No overspray on the dipstick tube, because it was installed at the final assembly plant, not the engine plant.

I wonder why in the world they would have shipped the engines minus dipstick & tube? Possible damage to them during engine shipment? [img]<<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/dunno.gif[/img] The dipstick & tube certainly would not have been model-specific.
