Default 1968 Camaro 12 bolt

When I restored my 68 Camaro ss I noticed that the rear end had no stampings from the factory on the tubes.
It was ordered with a 488 rear end.

I often wonder if all 488 rear ends were stamped from the factory.
Could the tubes on the car have been replaced at one time
and why would someone replace the tubes.
Taking into consideation that this car was a 10.45 car on the track. Raced every night and every weekend until I got the car
a few years back ???
What do you guys think
