Default Subframe Queastion for the Experts.....

Hi everyone! Looks like the Best of the Best hang out here! I have a question that I cant seem to find the answer anywhere(not exactly anyway)

This is related to the first gen camaro subframe vs. second gen camaro subframe. I know they are different and will not interchange with each other. I guess the second gen is longer?? My question is... Where exactly are the differences? and how much exactly are they? Or another way to ask....If I were to try and bolt a second gen sub on my first gen or vise versa(Im not going to do this, just trying to understand the differnces) What modifications would have to be done and exactly what would the measurments be.

Ok, the reason I ask is because I want to build some subframes for both cars and I want to use the same welding table. These frames will be tubular and nothing close to stock. I have the Fisher body specs for both but they dont tell me what I need to know.

If anyone here can help, I would be thankfull!

By the way, I do have a 69 daytona yellow z28 Thanks everyone!

If *I* were undertaking the task you described, *I* would get one of each and also would know that all 2nd gen subframes are NOT the same, I think it is 70-73, 74, 75 (?) and 76 (?, maybe 76 &amp; 77) and up. I know that the rear crossmembers on the 2nd gens are different because the subframe is different.

I would do some in depth research and know EXACTLY the differences before I started out with your plans.

Another difference is in the 2nd gen lower control arms ...

I remember a friend once buying a '68 SS396 Camaro that had a 2ND Gen subframe mounted under the front. You could tell by the steering box location. We found another '68 Camaro to rob the correct subframe out of to replace it with.

Thanks for the good advice! Control arms and such wont matter though because Im using all C6 Arms and knuckles. Will also be using a R&amp;P steering. I want to make the frames the same or as close as possible....just maybe the body mounting points are differnt??

If I knew that the stock frames from each car would bolt up to each body. That would tell me a lot for now, then the jig from the front of the control arms rearward would be the same. Then I could go by the measurments on the Fisher body manuals to figure out core support locations... right?? <div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Originally Posted By: al8apex</div><div class="ubbcode-body">If *I* were undertaking the task you described, *I* would get one of each and also would know that all 2nd gen subframes are NOT the same, I think it is 70-73, 74, 75 (?) and 76 (?, maybe 76 &amp; 77) and up. Thanks for the reply! Were the body mount locations modified for it to fit??

I really can't remember any specific modifications. This was about 20 years ago and the car was purchased as a roller and the newer subframe was already in there. We immediately found another '68 Camaro and put an original one back in. Sorry I don't have any photos or anything else.
