Default DO NOT TRUST TRAVELOCITY

This past weekend my Wife and I along with another couple rode our Harleys to the Thunder in the Valley Motorcycle Event in Johnstown PA. My Wife booked a non-smoking hotel room at a Super 8 Motel in Sommerset PA back in January for this event through Travelocity, for 3 nights..

Well when we got to the motel this past Thursday, June 23, and checked in we were told all they had left were smoking rooms. We were also told all of the other hotels in the area were sold out so basically we were "S.O.L." So we took the room and after being in there for 5 minutes looking around I almost vomited and we soon after checked out!!

The room conditions were just deplorable to say the least.. Holes in the ceiling, a smoke detector that was missing and bare wires hanging down from the hole were it once was in the ceiling, just ungodly filth and who knows what all over the bathroom walls.. And of course the room stunk!!

So we addressed the matter with the Hotel and all other rooms were booked. They told us that if we wanted a refund we had to address the matter with Travelocity direct because that is who we booked through and paid. So luckily we were able to secure a room at a Hampton Inn that was across the street from this Super 8. That was 110% better!!

My Wife telephoned Travelocity first on Friday morning, June 24, and was told by some non native American speaking woman that she had to e-mail the consumer dispute dept. I then telephoned right after and was told something different. I was on the phone with them for about an hour. They told me that the hotel had to authorize the refund of the room and that they would call and speak to them. They also admitted to their mistake and knew we had booked a non smoking room.

Well they did that and verified that we had checked in, and about 15 minutes later checked out. They told me that the owner was not on site of the Super 8 and that they would call him back and told me to call them (Travelocity) at a later time. I shortly after went back to the Super 8, located the owner who WAS on site and spoke to him directly.

He told me that Travelocity would have to authorize the refund and that it was not his doing. He basically told me that they were giving me the run around. I found this to be true today when I telephoned Travelocity and they now are trying to tell me that we booked a smoking room and would not refund our money. This was coming directly from a non native american speaking supervisor!! They basically screwed up and booked us in a smoking room when we specifically ordered a non smoking room.. The hotel desk clerk even verified that Travelocity booked us in a smoking room.

Travelocity SUCKS!! We are going to try to address the issued with the credit card co. and see what happens. Needless to say I am reporting Travelocuty to the BBB and Angie's list as well as reporting the conditions of the room to the health dept. and Sommerset PA building dept..

FYI..There is NO bargain with Travelocity anyways.. I found that it was only saving us 4 bucks a night, WOW BIG DEAL!!! My Wife had used them before with no problems which is why she booked with them.. NEVER AGAIN!!

Despite this aggravation we had a nice time.. The highlight of the trip however, was visiting the crash site of flight 93 from 9/11 in Shanksville PA which was very close to where we were... Walking into this site and temporary memorial just gave you chills to know what happened there. It also reminds you of what horrible disaster and attacks were done to this country on 9/11....

Here are a couple photos.. enjoy...

A Boss Hoss trike with a 350 cubic inch small block Chevy and the back end of a 57 Chevy... This thing was wild..

Flight 93 crash sight..

Flight 93 crash site. You can also see the permanent memorial being constructed. Phase I is to open on this 9/11/2011. At the memorial it said the plane was inverted and was doing 563 MPH when it crashed into the ground right near the tree line. The impact was 15-40 feet deep into the ground and the largest piece of the plane that was recovered was an 8 feet by 8 feet piece of fuselage...

We had a similar Non-smoking/smoking room issue we booked through Orbitz for the Power Tour. Orbitz reservation confirmation we printed out clearly showed we chose a non-smoking room, but they gave us a smoking room. At the front desk they told us that your room preference you chose online is not guaranteed and that was the only room they had. Well after my wife told him he would have to find us another room at another hotel for the same price, he eventually magically found us a non-smoking room there. Thank goodness we didn't have to go through trying to get a refund through Orbitz. Hopefully we wouldn't have had as much trouble as you had with Travelocity, but who knows.
I HATE that they charge your card the instant you book online, even if it's 9 months before you check in!
