Default Lest We Forget...

Tomorrow marks the 70th anniversary of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor.....December 7th, 1941.

There are probably only a handful of survivors alive from that fateful day so long ago...we owe it to their scacrifice to never forget.

I got this link from a friend about some recently discovered black & white photos from that day....they are incredible!

Great pictures. Last week I returned from a two week trip to Hawaii. It was my first time to visit Pearl Harbor. It was so much to take in that we made another trip back the next day.

I did not enjoy visiting Pearl Harbor many years ago as there was virtually no signs of any battle damage other than the Arizona. You could not get on Ford Island or Hickam Field. The Pearl Harbor museum is even located on ground that was not there at all in 1941. According to my dad who visited Ford Island in the 70's, you could still see bomb craters, bullet holes in the barracks, etc. I guess it makes it more believable when you can see it.

However, my understanding is they are once again opening Ford Island to the public so some of these sites will be able to be seen again.

Attached are a couple of photos of the original Ford Island control tower that was about ready to have to be torn down. It received a $5 M restoration and just needs windows to complete and they are accepting donations.

Excellent documentary running now on History channel about the 24hrs immed following the P Harbor bombing. A few snippets, FDR was playing with his stamp collection (his favorite hobby) in the White House when he was informed and he was pissed because they would not give him the details for fear the Japanese were listening on the phone lines. Excellent doc, very informative
