Default motion badges

I looked at a car that had motion badges on it, and the owner said its a real car, supposidly because of the badges being smaller that the catalog available versions. Car has been off the road for a LONG time. I think its a catalog conversion car.

nobody knows for sure, and nobody wants to spend the $4K to get the car checked out, but do original cars have unique badges like this guy thinks? Ever so slightly smaller he says.
too risky for me.

I'm not even a pimple on the rearend of a Motion "expert", but it's the first time I've ever heard that.
I can't see Rosen being the buisness man he is, paying money to have two differnet sizes made.

This may help to clarify things:

pic from thread

This thread doesn't get into the differences between real and the fakes, which are more common now than in 2005 when the thread was posted.

There seems to have been to hard rules as to which cars got what, although no early cars seemed to originally have small emblems. Got some pics to help sort it out?

Joel did have 2 different size badges. The valve cover pick is showing the smaller badge &the larger ,its just that the larger badge is cut down in size to properly fit the valve cover.

Bill, no its the emblems on the car. Its a 73 car.

Now if joel used only the large emblems for the catalog, and used smaller ones on his cars (in 73), then maybe there is something here.

Now Joel used only the large emblems in the begginning. When he was runnig out he had the new ones made to the new valve covers size from then on. That was about 1969. *Paul

I kinda agree with that- probably no surprize I'd agree with my Dad. I do beleive he had the new emblmes made specifically to fit those valve covers although he used them other palces too. I have seen some larger emblems after 1969 so either he had both kinds made or was using some old stock where he could.

aware of only two sizes used.
both were used on cars in the shop and sold over the counter or via catalog.

ok, now wait a minute. My brain is telling me there are 3 sizes now, as there is no freaking way those big badges in the last post could be cut down to fit in the valve covers, when I look at those pictures.

are you guys sure there are not 2 vintages of valve covers, and he had to modify the small badge a bit to fit one of the runs? those covers do have visual differences in them a bit (one has more rounded edges, the other has sharper lines).

100% confused.
