Default Interested in your opinions on a 68 Shelby

Being a relatively new collector, I am asking the opinion of the folks on this forum because, after spending hours reading through countless threads, I've an ever growing respect for the knowledge on this site.

Stroking over............honest opinions, assuming everything checks out correctly, what is this GT 500 worth?

On the surface and in the write up it looks and sounds great. Go to the Shelby Registry and look it up, also. No underside or engine shots that I could see.
Always go look at the car, it hasn't been judged in any venue.

Join this forum

introduce yourself, provide a link to the car and the members will give you a thorough walk around on what is presented and what you need to learn about the car.

There are people on SAAC that know about GM supercars as well but this would be the best place to inquire. They can be a bit suspicious of "newbies" and bit close vested when someone posts for the first time so be sure to say hello and tell them a bit about yourself. If you use the same handle or reference this forum I will greet you.

Have you "called for pricing?" If the car as advertised turns out to be legit, I doubt it will be under $150KUS. If you GOOGLE the VIN, the place in NJ that probably has the car on consignment, has it on five web sites.

Concur on the SAAC.

I would definitely speak to the SAAC registrar for 68s, they have considerable more info many times than is printed in the registry. many times it is known info. but not confirmed and therefore not print worthy.

If my heart was set on a convertible I'd make sure it was a KR not just a GT500. If having the top go down isn't a priority then I'd look at 67s. Those were last cars built at Shelby-American in California and thus are more preferred generally. In addition, The GT500s had duece 4 barrel carbs which was gone in 68.

In my opinion, a lime 68 GT500 convertible with auto can be a tough sell when you want out of it

Looks clean in the registry. Sounds like it's been in a museum in SD for most of its life - originally a CA car. Lime green is not a popular color, automatic hurts it a lot. A/C is not that rare in an automatic. I've owned '67 and '68 Shelbys & I agree totally with the '67 being the better choice. If you want to talk to a real, honest, expert - call Bill Collins @ 717-648-6600. Bill owns '65 GT 350 #7 prototype, a real '64 Cobra, GT40, ect. He's been around these cars forever. I've purchased several Shelbys from Bill. He has car corral spots next to mine at Hershey next week - you should call Bill & drive up to talk to him. Nothing in it for me, but don't spend a lot of money without educating yourself.
