Default VIN stamp question (69 camaro BB)

Looking at the engine pad picture in the attached link, shouldn't the VIN be stamped back on the rough casting surface of a 69 big block camaro?
I thought only novas and chevelles had them up front...

----I believe that depended on the time of manufacture, but I have no comment on this particular stamping......Bill S

That stamping looks suspicious. Would need a full pic of it to verify, but I dont like what I see.

Beware, transmission assembly date stamping looks to be a restamp. I've never seen spacing like that on a 1969 assembly stamping ever.

Looks to be the same car that just sold on this site sometime in July posted for sale by Phil S, maybe he could answer your questions.

Here is a trans stamp from 19N576514 for comparison.

I had no intention of critizing the stamps on trans. but now that you brought it up, it looks ok to me.
looking at the recent trans example posted for comparison, the first character of the build date lines up over the second character of vin. the last character of date stamp, lines up with second to last digit in vin stamp. they look the same to me, when I compare the pictures.
