Default Carmel Artomobilia

Last Saturday my Yenko Stinger Canadian Prototype was in an invitation only car show in a suburb of Indy. Shelys were the featured cars , so we were surrounded by Cobras and Shelby Mustangs. Each car made sort of a parade lap down Main Street on the way to our assigned space. We were about 20 ft. behind a 427 Cobra on the drive...all the spectators were stunned at the sound of the Stinger after seeing and hearing the Cobra. Warren D. and I reproduced the Gulf Oil Research headers for the car...long tubes, large dia. collectors , originally designed for Elkhart Lake with its high speeds. A lady came by asking about the car's Canadian history...said she was a good friend of Copo Pete.... had a nice visit with her. We ended up parked next to a 1920's Miller Indy car...forerunner of the Offy. Several million dollar car ! Very nice event.

Sounds like a great event.

Sorry, as neat as they are, and I have owned a couple of Stingers, one, highly modified, not in the same league as a big block Cobra.

I have history with a 427 Cobra...growing up in McMurray, Pa. my neighbor across the road was Ed Lowther who raced his Cobra to a National Championship in A/Prouction in 1966, sponsored by Eger Motors in McKeesport, Pa. Ed introduced me to Bob Leitzinger whose son, Butch, has won the Daytona 24 hrs and had a successful career in Prototype racing and prompted me to Visit Yenko in Canonsburg, where I eventually spent most of the next 6 yrs.

Ed was a very cool guy. Met him at the first SCR and remained friends until his untimely passing. His stories about racing, including Cobras, were priceless, and very colorful.

Congrats on the invitation Markus Must have been a heck of a show, nice to have a Stinger in the mix. I'd love to hear the sound of the Gulf research header....

Re: Ed Lowther About 10 yrs. ago I was at a MidOhio Vintage race . It was a Thursday practice day, a mix of cars on the track. After the session, I walked thru the paddock, looking at cars. There was a mid-engine Genie/ smallblock Ford ( forerunner of the Can Am cars). I stopped to look at it in detail, the owner asked if I had seen one before. I remarked that it looked like Ed Lowther's old car that he raced before the Cobra. The guy jumped out of his chair and said " How do you know that !" I explained that Ed was my neighbor and I spent time in his garage !By the way, Ed won 2 Championships in the Genie, which had been driven by Dan Gurney and Pedro Rodriguez earlier in its life !

Ed Lowther was one of the drivers on the Yenko/Gulf Corvette Racing team and had one of the special order 1961 Corvettes from Yenko Chevy
