Anybody have an idea when this plate first showed up? I've had this one on my Nova in 87-88 but don't have a clue where I got it or when. It's on my 69 Z now. Should be able to see it in my sig pic.

Not a very common plate. I've never seen another.

Can I assume this was probably just something that was stamped out to make a few bucks? I would have thought somebody here would have come across one of these. Not much interest as a collectible correct?

I have no idea when it first came out,but I used to see a vendor or two selling those during the late 1970's around the midwest swapmeets.
Does it have reflective prism tape around it? |

My brother had the same prismatic red "Chevy" plate on his 1969 SS396 Camaro back in the day (1978). It was a regular auto parts store item.

I left the US to go to my overseas base in 79 and I didn't see this plate until I got back in country. I'm not even sure how or when I came to have it.

Yeah, I'm kind of thinking the same thing actually. My friend here in Dover had a decent speed/ machine shop from the 80's to a few years ago and he use to have a rack that had different oddball vanity plates on it but I've never noticed this one. Could have been from NAPA maybe? Heck we didn't even have an AutoZone, Advance, or even a PepBoys when I took the pic of my Chevy II in the mid 80's. So we can at least say late 70's then. Not very desirable I suppose. Thanks guys. Clears that up...not that I was losing sleep over it, just curious.

Looks like a "Western Auto" or "Whites Automotive" store type thing, like the prismatic decals from the day.
