Unbelievable money for that comic.

My great uncle was one of the first artists for the Superman Comics. He had many of the original issues, but loaned them to a relative in the 70's and never saw them again. He told me the story years ago of how he got the job. He was a local artist here in Cleveland and was painting a mural on the wall of a saloon. A whiskey salesman came in, saw his work and told him about two guys looking for an artist for a new comic series. He pursued the job and got it. He worked for Siegel and Shuster for about 2 years. He pulled up stakes in Ohio and headed to California to pursue a commercial artist career. He remained in California for the rest of his life.

I'm sure he would be shocked to see this kind of money chasing a comic book. Back then, it was just a job for him.
