I think the original stripes are crayon, not paint.

They were paint I believe, you can usually see the brush lines. I had an original LS6 driveshaft that had paint from the stripes running front to back from what looked like lying on a table after striping.

Nova's are paint as well. I only know the Deuce stripes, yellow-green-yellow, and I don't think they would be the same for an L78 car.

The driveshaft out of the 68 Nova parts car I just junked. Green - Brown - Orange stripes about 12" from slip yoke end. Car was 307 Powerglide car.

Likely not the same between Nova and Camaro.
The paint stripes were a form of visual identification (like an assembly plant "broadcast code" or "pick code" ![]() Anything that would create a new proliferation of part (ie, tube diameter, material thickness, tube length, slip yoke size/type or u joint size) would drive a new part number and therefore unique stripe pattern for that drive shaft part/vehicle powertrain combination. And - yes - they were paint. Brushed immediately after the balance operation (while still in the balancing fixture). They were not taped in order to have clean edges. Pretty sloppily done, actually.
