What type of grease was used when these were assembled. Its silver in color and has what looks like graphite in it as well..
![]() Could it be this? |

Dont worry Sam Im not putting it back in the green car.. Just wanted to tear down, clean, reassemble & preserve. <div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Originally Posted By: JoeC</div><div class="ubbcode-body">the originals I have seen had a white grease that has a cream color to it </div></div> Joe, it could be white; lighting was not the greatest and plus there was a lot of grim on the shifter body. What have you used in the past? This stuff definitely has some type of graphite in it because it would smear and was hard to remove.. Could have been something my father added to help aid the shifting problem.. Obviously didnt work since he installed a Hurst. |

The White Lubriplate is best because it stays put.
Never seize is only for non moving parts.

Exactly, as I found out with the NOS Muncie shifter body that I bought and installed in my car! Had to pull it back out and hose a ton of fresh white grease in there, and now it works great.

Very well might have been, because my friends and I did exactly that many many times back in the early 1970's......and that's why we now have to pay large sums of money to find and/or restore them
