Hello guys,
I'm building another small block motor and would like to know if anyone has used a larger camshaft selection for 355/377/406 Crossram builds and what other cam grinds/heads if any that you have experimented with? I'm building a 355 with a forged crank, after market I beam rods, forged flat tops and have yet to decide which camshaft and heads I am going to run with it. Looking for a real solid / honest 500+ hp build that'll run in front of an M22 with 4:10 posi and one that sounds / runs on the nasty edge.
I have a couple new cams kicking around here including a Comp 12-673-4 Nostalgia Plus (mild), a Crower hydraulic roller (Hot street level 4) and a Comp Magnum 306-S which is more of a heavy solid. I'm thinking of running the 306S with the Crossram but wonder how that big of cam would run with 2x4 and if it'd make any vacuum and or mid range power? If going that route I would also need to pick a set of heads to match up with the build. If I try to keep it stock looking, my head options are a worked over set of 3917291 castingss or a set of ported 3991492 castings? If I lean towards a pair of aluminum castings then I'd consider a new set of AFR's or perhaps some worked over Pro-Filer heads but can't decide between 195cc or 210cc runners. I'm looking for a 10.5:1 build with more duration and really wonder who has experimented with larger cam profiles and various head combo's when running a Crossram on the street. That and what kind of power can be realized when stepping up from the traditional 302 build with the 140 cams? I want something more aggressive than stock and I'm hoping to find a proven combo that makes for a real nasty little small block?
Any combo suggestions for something well above the stock configurations? Advice and experienced input always appreciated. Thanks
