Default Just announced NEW LS1 Lumina SS coupe

GM has recently announced the release of the new Chevrolet Lumina S powered by a supercharged 3.8 litre V6 and a SS version powered by a LS1 V8, both with leather interiors,
independant rear supspension. Orders can be placed in any Chevrolet dealer (as long as they are located in Saudi
Arabia )
Have finally run in my Commodore Executive LS1 (base model out the door for around 22,000 US ) and tried to launch it. Had a real problem . Stock wheels are 15 x 6. You can imagine the result.
Well everyone else in the world is enjoying V8 high perf cars. (What did you people DO to Gm to get treated this way )
I can only shake my head. Read about the Vortec 5.3 ltre, is this a relative of the Gen 3 or something else.

Yeah, I think the 5.3L and the 6.0L are both Gen III designs, as is the LS-1. Any problems down under with piston slap? Over at LS-1.com there are a lot of people complaining about this, and my SS does this occasionally...very annoying.

I've gotten to where I hate to even hear what GM is doing elsewhere in the country...they often times have good ideas, but never seem to make it here to the U.S. Those Saudis problem threw some oil money GM's way to get those built!

Rob the only problems we have had so far is with early engine retirements (one let go when being driven out of the dealer, back in late 1999 & early 2000.) Fault was caused by sump, oil pump problems. Apart from that no other compaints.
Mine has about 10,000 Kls with virtually no oil useage. Interesting to see how they stack up over time.
The SS Lumina is a Monaro rebadged as a Chev. Saudis don't know what a Holden is.
Was thinking last night after the post at what a strange car my Commodore is :-
4 Door family sedan (base model executive)
Air Con ...essential in Aust.
No power windows
No traction control
No Limited slip diff
Steel 15 x 6 wheels...with plastic hub caps no less.
AND 300hp engine.
Kind of reminds you of a L72 Biscayne.
Thanks for the note on the Vortec.

Sorry about GM in the US, from where I stand it looks like they keep shooting themselves in the foot.
Two top selling cars in the US are a Honda and a Toyota.

Even our Falcons outsell the Camrys. (New Falcon XR8 with 5.3 Ltre OHC rumoured to pull 260 KW ...more than the Corvette. ) Can't wait to see GMH's reply.

The big gun for Chevy is the Z06/LS6 with 405 HP. I have not heard if this will increase for 2003 but it can use a supercharger. Hot Rod tested a 2003 SVT Mustang Cobra with the 4.6 that has an Eaton supercharger and intercooler. Ford claims 390hp but Hot Rod reports 369 hp on the chassis dyno and a 12.93 @ 114.5 ET. The 2003 Viper and Ford GT40 are supposed to have 500hp. 2003 will be a horse power war just like in 1969-70. Chevy needs to build something with 500hp.
