Default What was the point?

Pardon me for venting!
Check out this link for an auction on ebay & the reason for cancelling the auction.
I sent the seller an email to see if it was going to be relisted and if the part was still available.
Here is his response:
"Its not available any longer There wasn't much response on ebay.
therefore we sold it to a walk in customer at our store.

Sorry about that,
Jim"

It was listed for ONE DAY!!! not much response, give me a break.
I know the systems are NOS available for around $1000 but I'm not yet ready to spend that much.
Oh well, I'll keep trying to piece together a system.
Anyone have a '68 Smog Pump with around a Mid May date?
Actually any small block smog parts for that year I'd be interested in.
Thanks,
Rob

Rob,
Whether it seems right or wrong more Sellers are doing that these days, Not clear to me why either.
I can speculate on a few ideas in my mind, but I have learned that if you see something
You really need or want contact the seller and ask what it is going to take to buy it, or make them an offer. ěMost sellers claim for sale locally, so I suppose they have the right to run there auction however they likeî, I can hear you all screaming foul but the fact is someone else has probably already e-mailed the guy asking the same thing, Its just another game people are playing, avoiding seller fees and deadbeat bidders. Decide what it is worth make an offer plus shipping, all they can say is yes or no.

Bud.

It just happend to me too. I bid on a set of NOS plastic inners. Had 6 days to go on auction. Came out to the shop this morning, turned on computer, checked ebay and they were sold. I emailed the seller. He said he got an offer he couldn't refuse. Don't seem rite to me.......Tony

Budnate,
That must be the reason why it was sold. My first instinct would be to say to put a "BUY IT NOW" option on the auction but maybe you get better offers via email?
A smog system for a '69Z was just recently sold for $1400 by YOUNTTO. I thought that was a ridiculous amount but someone happily paid it.
Who knows what offers Jim at Heartbeatcity was offered.

I guess there's no way for ebay to police these things so I guess we'll have to join the club

Yep, instead of selling at no reserve, or starting out at what they almost want, or can you believe it a ěBuy it Now Priceî, Its all about fees, e-bay has brought some of this on them selves with there fees. People are more inclined to go on fishing trips to see what may happen on the side, donít fight it, just roll with the punches guys and set up for ěits mineî when you see what you need. Fact is you need to crack that wallet wide open these days, not likely to score online, most people know what they have and if they dont, the other bidder will know what it is.
