Would like to know if I could get some opinions on the picture of a block stamp from a 396 out of a 68 Camaro? I'm wondering about the appearance of the stamp TI212MQ.
Any help would be appreciated.

Unless the photo has been altered the stamp to me looks wrong. The numbers seem to curve down and then back up as to correct the line.I think all stampings as this should have been gang samped not one by one as this looks to me,but as I said thats only if no alterations were done to the photo, also the pad looks suspect.

I should add that the car has a build date of 12E. This would mean that the block should be stamped T1212MQ. The trans and rear are correct date stamped and coded.
Also, the partial VIN appears correct on the block to the right of the code. Just concerned about the I instead of what I think should be a 1. Maybe I'm splitting hairs, but any help is appreciated.

having a t1212 instead of t0212 is not the determining factor that this is an original pad or not..the 1212 is dec 12 [1967 in this case] and 0212 would be feb 12 1968 ..both from a 68

The "I" and "1" were interchangable due to a lack of stamps I guess. There are original motors with "I" in the place of a "1" so don't let that throw you. But the stamping doesn't look straight and spaced properly. Do you have a better picture with some more detail?

I'll do you one better. Here's the link to the E-bay listing.

I have a problem with the VIN stamping on the Muncie. All the 68 LOS Camaro Muncies I've seen have the VIN stamped on top and not on the side.

If I could see that "CASTING CLOCK" a bit better on that Muncie case, it would help...might be able to see if it at least matches the build date.
The Block Stamp, and though I am not very familiar with Camaros....looks abit suspect...but not b/c of the "I" that is fine IMHO., but it just has an overall...amateur re-stamp look to it...hard to put my finger on it. Just my 3 cents. ( inflation ) |
