The new shows on SPEED are a mixed bag.
The Barrett-Jackson Car Search seems pretty cool. I'll have to see how it runs. If they only look at the expensive stuff I'll lose interest.... show me a resto-in-progress at the beginning stages. ![]() "Chop, Cut & Rebuild" would be okay if they didn't use such total-crap noise for a background sound track. They seem to have this band that just jams through the whole show with tons of echo, feedback, tremelo and other effects, and although I play rock guitar (loudly sometimes) this stuff grates on my nerves so badly I wanted to grab a steak knife and do a "Van Gogh" on BOTH my ears! ![]() Next, this "Tuner Transformation" show was the worst piece of trash I've ever watched (well, since "Square Pegs" anyway). The guys staged these faked heated arguments about ricer decals, had another argument (staged and totally fake) about the placement of a Nitrous bottle in the trunk, and the graphics dude decided that "5-spoke wheels were over used" so he added a 10-spoke - which had 5 sets of 2 spokes- making it LOOK like a 5-spoke anyway! ![]() They "tested" the car in a snow & ice-covered parking lot, and made a big deal out of "presenting" the car back to it's ricer owner - which included a totally stupid and gratuitous a$$ shot of the show's "I know absolutely JACK about cars" token babe. This show is a total POS and waste of anyone's time. Even the ricers should be ashamed of it! ![]() Anyone seen these shows yet? Goat72 ![]()

I saw a little bit of the tuner transformation show by accident. My dad had it on and even my mom and dad were laughing at it.

I watched all three of those shows and you assessments are dead on. The background music for CCR was annoying as hell and, as much as I enjoy watching cars get rebuilt they could have selected a car that I might actually care about. Do you really think watching a beat up Ranger pickup get cleaned up for 26 episodes is going to be exciting? Oh, and what was with the Chevelle they found in the barn? We see it get pulled out of the barn and that's it; I thought that was the car we were going to see them fix up.
Tuner Transformation was so staged it wasn't funny. Take an RX8 slap some wheels and decals on it, throw a nitrous kit in the trunk. Wow that's never been done before ![]() The only show with any promise is the Barrett-Jackson car search and it's still too early in the game to formulate an opinion on that. |

I have to give credit where credit is due.
Lat night's version of Tuner Transformations was much-improved. The guys actually pulled the engine out of the '89 240ZX they were transforming and added a bigger, turbo engine with an intercooler. Then they added shocks and 5-lug brake rotors for bigger wheels. They put on a body kit and they repainted the entire car. I don't know if they worked the sound system. They had one minor incident of faux argumentation, other than that they got along well. Hopefully they'll stay on track. ~Goat72 ![]()
