There was a Red 71 LS5 here that was listed for sale as well in the paper. Nice looking car though that you linked to. First time I have seen that decal on a air cleaner though but then I dont get out much

That is the first time I have ever heard/seen a SS "400". The broadcast sheet also states that fact and matches the air cleaner decal.
Is that legit?

Yeah, I can't say I've seen an SS with the 400 designation before. It's not even a 400, it's a 402. Very interesting. Nice looking car too.

I have seen that before on other Chevelles. It had something to do with the way the option was marketed. Some repair manuals will show a 400 w/2bbl and 400 w/4bbl. The 2bbl.was a small block. The 4bbl. was a big block.

THE BUILDSHEET FOR THE CAR CONFIRMS ITS A 400 CI. KP [/ QUOTE ] So does that mean it should have a small block 400, not a 402 big block?

So is it really a 402 big block even though they advertise it as a 400? I've never heard of a 400 big block, just the 396, 402, 427, 454.
