Default Searching a VIN in California?

Is it possible to search for a car using a VIN in California? This would be a car that is currently registered. We can do it here by using the automated kiosks for renewing license plates. Can a private investigator do a search? Thanks for any help you can offer

You need to be in Law enforcement in order to access that listing! If you are a current owner, yes you can run a printout on it. California only keeps the info on VIN's for, I think, 5 years if they are not kept up in their system! I think you would need an attorney in Calif to inquire whether they can access that for you!
Good Luck!

Mark, if you have any luck with your CA. search, let us know. I'm still trying to track down the first owner of my Car Craft/Car & Driver Vette. It sure would be nice to complete my last piece of documentation.
