Default Sad day/Good day in Chevyland...

Cutting one loose from the stable is never easy and yesterday,I sold my '70 El Camino SS-454/M-22 car.Selling them is never easy to me because I envision myself as an owner & collector rather than a short-term owner/seller for profit.I buy what I like and therefore, never have to sell mearly because I'm tired of a particular car.The cars that I own are those I've always dreamed of owning and the rest of the stable is not for sale.

This car was supposed to be for my wife to cruise and show when we planned something together that would enable us both to display a car. This really never materialized and after only 230 miles in 8 months on a fresh 454,obviously it was not being used to it's full potential so it has gone to a friend and a good home.I'll still be able to see it from time to time and I got a good price for it so I'm at peace with that.

The "good" part of the day came when I drove to one of my garages I house my '70 Z & my 70 Chevelle 454 in and started them both.We had a slight rain the night before so I wasn't planning on driving them, just starting them and admiring them and to see both cars side-by-side living and breathing certainly brightened my spirits.

Lastly,I sat in my freshly-restored '69 Z since that's all have done recently since the motor decided to take a s**t.Now with the El Cam gone,it's full-steam ahead on repairing (keeping my fingers crossed on that one that it's repairable )the 302 and making it nastier than ever .

One must go so that the other can live...that seems like the way it is around here. When I get the '69 up and running,I'll post some pics of all three for all to see.

Thanks for letting me rant...I was just feeling a little down.

Being the sentient beings that we are, it is always good to be around our "babies" and experience them even if it is to just hear them rumble and take in the sweet smell of their exhaust. You have a fine stable of bowties. What a great place to have them with those misty (foggy too) cool mornings and windy roads. Attended NPS awhile back and fell in love with the area.

Now, show us some pictures!

Sam,

Yes,I need to post pics and I will soon.My '69 has a real Trans-Am look to it with the way I had the front grille & endura painted. You'd have to see it,hard to explain.

Yellow & Black looks downright mean!

The Monterey Peninsula,as you know,is a beautiful place to drive a nice classic and this wknd is no different.Beautiful weather and the Sports Car races are in town which is where I'm heading right now....

I'd like to see some pics of the Elco... I feel your pain , I sold my 69 SS396 Camino last year in order to help put the funds together to buy my Yenko Deuce. I too never buy cars with the intentions of ever selling them, and had put alot of time and effort and $$$ into making it just the way I wanted it, only to have to do a "quick sale" of it right about the time I was finally happy with it. Oh well, I did what i had to, as I'm sure you did too... hopefully your buddy will take car of, and enjoy your elco and maybe even sell it back to you someday! I really think they are under-appriciated cars (trucks) and hope to have another one... someday.

Yes I know how you feel. I sold my LS-5 El-Camino 2 Years ago. Luckily now I have another 70 El-Camino. This one is a LS-6,4 Speed Black on Black. Hopefully I will never sell it.

John..although you needed to thin the heard, it seems as though there's plenty of muscle left in the barn! It's nice to see another Peninsula member, I live over in Salinas.I heard there's one more Seaside show this month. If you decide to go, let me know what your going to bring and I'll come say hello.

Jeff

Jeff,

Another Peninsula musclehead, huh? Saw the Chicago reference in your bio, didn't know you lived in Salinas.Beautiful weather this weekend, wasn't it? The encore show is on the 28th. and it will feature the top picks of all the previous shows going head-to-head to determine the overall winner for 2005.I really planned on displaying the '69 this year until the motor blew but now it'll be roaring again soon .
What do you own?If I can attend,it'll have to be either the '70 Z or the '70 Chevelle since that's all I have running currently .

Will be yanking the 302 out of the Camaro this wknd or next and then the wheels are turning as which way to go.I want to build a roller cam 302 with all the good internals.I'm sure I've probably seen you out and about in the past, just didn't know it .

camarojoe,

That is a beautiful El Cam!
