With that hair line crack, the handle will have a slight rattle then eventually break after a few hard shifts. The aluminum T handles were a better choice .

I have one of these that was in excellent condition but yellowed. Turns out these were clear coated. I fine sanded ours and re-cleared it. Looks like new again. I bought it in the early '70s and it has been sitting on a shelf for years. I guess I'll have to use it again. Didn't know they were so valuable.

Depending on the day ( and mood I guess ), these original
Hurst shifter balls & handles can get pricy.

I've got a collection of these things. Remember the fuzz
covered Hurst T-handles? I've got an original NOS gold
covered one and the more rare NOS black covered one. I've
also got the white one like shown in the auction as well as
the obligatory aluminum T-handle. One item has escaped me
though. The original early Hurst 4-speed white balls were
a larger diameter than the 1-7/8" balls of today. I can't
seem to ever locate one of those puppies.

Anyone know or remember how many different Hurst T-handles
and balls were around back in the day? Interesting side
topic - huh?

Steve

I have a Hurst Competition Plus shifter that we installed in our orginal '69 Chevelle in 1970. It had the bigger white ball I believe. It will be going back into the car when the day 2 restoration is done. I remember that black veloured Tee handles as well as the aluminum units. I think the plastic Tee handles also came in black.

Hey Keith...If you ever get a spare min, could you measure your early one? The one in my 69 is 1.875 and I thought it was installed when the car was new. No hurry. Thanks.
