Default MSD distributor question

I'm posting this for a buddy. His '67 SS 396 Camaro has a 1988 crate Mark IV LS7 454 with a T-10 and 3:73 Posi. He replaced the old Accel dual-point with an MSD unit that does not require a separate ignition box. Here's what he said in his e-mail to me:

"I installed that MSD distributor and may have an issue with it. From what I have researched, the '67 seems to have a resistor wire that runs to the stock distributor from the firewall connection. From what I read, the MSD distributor required a FULL 12 volts to operate properly, and by connecting the stock wire to the new MSD you won't get the full 12 volts and that can cause problems. (I fouled out a set of plugs in like 100 miles.) Not sure if that's the issue but I'm thinking I have to replace that resistor wire with a normal copper wire????? I have the new MSD electronic distributor that replaces the stock distributor (no 6a box required to run it)."

Thanks in advance for any advice you can give!

I would run a new wire from the start pole on the switch direct to the MSD.

I agree with Kim, that is a resistor wire and less than 12V is being delivered.

I've been trying to find a source for the fiberglass braided wire with the orange trace to duplicate the ballast resistor wire. I found some white wire for kitchen stoves, but it did not have the trace.
Anyone have any ideas?
