I really like the registry idea and sticking to big blocks.
The old magazine articles are a great idea as well. Try not to get too broad with the range of models as the sheer volume of information is going to be staggering. (I think that you will be amazed. I would break down by year first then into specific differences of the L-34, L-35, L-78.

That is something that I thought of and did not mention, the breakdown. I agreee completely that it needs to be that way.

One mistake I have made in this post is that if it did become part of the Camaros.net site it would only be an informative section on the cars. Most of these ideas would involve a new site.

By the sounds of the 'sketches' your making, along with the suggestions...I would lean toward doing a dedicated site towards a 1st gen BB registry with a small'ish forum and an extended (from Camaros.net site perhaps) BB specific 'ID' section.
If you want to keep it painfully simple for now look at the 2nd gen registry for a quick blueprint..it's fairly new but growing.: The camaro2ndgenerationregistry.net You can start it small and expand it as your, or other members time permit.

Michael,
DO NOT just include L/78 & L/89 cars. Take a look at the production numbers and you'll see how many L/35 ( tons ) and L/34 ( more rare ) cars there were. When I restored my L/34 years ago, I ran into so much difficulty because Jerry MacNeish and others focused on the SHP cars only. I had to do so much extra work because no one was sure what the "other" big blocks used as correct. Simple things like the throttle rod, proper tach ( variations ), SMOG, etc.. So, my vote would be to include all big block applications. Make it the defacto BBC only site. ![]() Steve

However, if it is 'THE' defacto BBC only site, you must include the late model GMMG Camaros. They were built in the same spirit as the early Yenkos, Baldwins, Nickeys, etc... There are members here that own them and I'll bet they would be willing to help with info.

Another dedicated site that is small but growing is the pace car site. http://www.camaropacecars.com/

The pace car site is very good... they are as detail oriented over there as anyone... the site is set up very clean and easy to navigate.
I disagree with including late model CMMG cars in the site. If that were the case then you would need to go through 72 as well because they had BB. Stick with the first gen's.

I have been a member of the pace car site and many others for a while and agree with many of the layouts. I personaly feel that a new site should include the lower horsepower 396's as well but leave it at first gen only, at least for now. The amount of data that would have to be put together along with set up, editing, etc. will be titanic to say the least. Plus trying to research an entirely new area the CMMG's for example and verify the data would be more than I can handle right now. I do like the way that the second gen is set up as well but for the registry portion I would not list vin or body numbers, more likely running totals with breakdowns to models, options, etc. One of the biggest questions would be building a forum into it, do we realy need or want another one, camaros.net I find to be a great Camaro specific forum site, as well as this one and many of the others.
My real intent is to help promote the history of the cars out there and help people ID, document and restore them to the best of my ability and those that choose to help out in that respect. |
