.......... LCX23 Muscle Cars 500hp plus Hemi Challenger possible The talk on the Internet is that in 2010, Dodge will introduce its next SRT-8 screamer—a Challenger with a 510hp engine with an equally brutal 510-ft.lbs. of torque. Even though we have yet to see if the “new” Dodge Challenger will be built with the 6.1 Hemi, which is currently installed in the SRT-8 300C and Magnum series, sources say. SRT Director Kipp Owen is busy at work and Mopar fans should not give up hope. The next SRT-8 will rival the upcoming Chevrolet Camaro and Ford Shelby GT500. The planned 2009 Dodge Challenger R/T, which reportedly will be built in limited copies—50,000, if you call that limited—will be powered by the 6.1-liter, 425hp Hemi now being built. But as mentioned earlier, the SRT-8 Challenger may have a 6.4 liter Hemi V-8 with torque matching that of the all-time champ—the Buick GS 455 of 1970. The most torque in a passenger car engine today is in the Viper V-10. Baby boomers, who have the most disposable income, want big engines to regain their lost youth, hair and waistlines. So SRT engineers are secretly developing the 6.4 Hemi. The 2010 Dodge Challenger SRT-8 will reside on the “LY” platform, code-named LCX23. Hopefully, we should see the “new” Dodge Challenger by April 2008.
