Default 1970 L78 Nova dual exhaust

Need information on the dual exhaust system for a 1970 L78 Nova. I'am researching the correct setup for my resto. In the assembly manual it shows the RPO N10 dual exhaust with the resonators, but the SS package included dual exhaust. In my GM parts manual 1962-76 the chart has with and without resonators. What would be the correct setup for my car that was built in 4/70 and also is a NA9 CA. emissions car? I have an correct NOS muffler and tailpipes already. I know there are a some knowledgable people on this site that may have a better idea than me. Thanks

The L78 Novas came with resonators, CA emissions or not. A very restrictive exhaust system to say the least. Gardiners exhaust systems have the most correct repro systems available, they also have also produced the correct hangers as well., Good luck

Thanks JR! I visited their site and listened to the various cars sound clips. Do they sell just complete sets or will they sell pieces? Its also cool to chat with you as my car is almost optionwise identical to your fathom blue car. My car is fathom blue, L78 w/dual snorkel and NA9, M20, 3:55 , F41, bench seat and no chrome strip options with dog dish caps. I boxed the bench seat muncie shifter and 3:55 ring and pinion in favor of a Hurst and 3:73s.

It is my understanding that the resonators were a mid year addition to both SB and BB cars. I believe the the change over was sometime late winter/early spring...pretty sure all the Deuces came with resonators(experts pleae correct if I am mistaken)The resonators may have been introduced about the same time the dual-snorkel setup came out. Noise reduction was probably the motivation. I have several Novas with Gardner sysyems and they work very well. Don't think they will sell individual components though...

Thanks guys!!! My Novas are my kids too. Out of curiosity how much does a Gardner exhaust system cost? I will probably go this route for sure as I have read many good things about Gardners craftsmanship.

You are correct, all of the Yenko Deuce Novas came with the resonator version of N10. The first batch of Deuce Novas was produced in 05D, just for a point of reference when trying to determine the introduction of the option.

To my knowledge, Gardner only sells complete kits - their resonator package is perfect, I won't monkey with it no matter how bad I'd like another few tenths in the 1320

As always this site is REAL helpful once again, Definetly the heavy hitters of the Nova owners replied and I greatly appreciate it. I have been around Novas a long time myself and I always learn something new here that the books have voids in. Thanks again

We just finished installing a Gardner exhaust on a camaro. They're worth every penny. Had a nice visit with the owner Eric. They take a great deal of pride in they're product, and it shows.
