I'm having some trouble installing the rear upper control arm bushings on my 1970 Chevelle and am looking for some possible tips??? I put the new bushings in the freezer over night and was only able to get them in about half way using a rubber mallet. I pulled them back out and put them back in the freezer for now. Any help would be appreciated!!!

Also try hitting the diameters with WD-40,or a similar silicone substance. |

Rob,
I use a wooden spacer to keep the two halves from collapsing in on each other. If they do that the bushing will not slide in properly as the bore will be canted. Measure the inside of the control arm and then cut a piece of wood a little smaller (allow room to wrap a rag around it so as to not scratch the arms) and cut the piece of wood in a half round shape to go around the contour of the bushing opening. Then use a large socket or similar tool and a press (if available) and they will press right in. I can do all four sets on control arms in about an hour and it works very well. Rick

I've used some anti-seize as some lubricant as well, and packed the bushings in some dry ice. They popped right in - but it's best to use the spacer like Rick is describing. BTW, make sure you paint the arms after you press the bushings - some of us scratched the arms all up pressing in the bushings, and had to sand/paint them again
