Default 69 COPO restored by Gary Volpecelli for sale

I was at a local cruise-in tonight and saw a 69 camaro on a trailer. The car was an excellent restoration done by Gary Volpecelli in Concord N.C. The current owner had it for sale for $185K According to the owner, Ed C certified the car as a legit COPO. The car was an X44 car and had the MN block stamp. Is there a VIN list of 69 COPO's? I have looked at the Yenko vin list but is there a list of factory vin #'s? The restoration was excellent. It was nice to see a COPO at a friday night cruise-in! Kevin

Thanks for the link Andy. The car is listed under the "smaller dealers". This car is shown as being sold at Dale Chevrolet in Waukesha, WI. The VIN is N650469. The car is still Garnet Red. It is now owned by Brent Johnson in Concord N.C. who owns Carolina Exotics. The car can be seen on his website, www.carolinaexotics.net He mentioned he may put the car for sale on this site soon. As I stated in the first post, the car is an X44 car. I didnt write down any info on the cowl tag, I just memorized the VIN so I could research it. Thanks again for the help Andy. Kevin

The car has been on ebay a couple times and discussed (at least a little bit) here:

Red COPO

Thanks Joe, It seems there is always a story behind the story so to speak. He didnt mention that the engine was not the original. I didnt want to stand on my head to see the pad behind the alternator but I could see the MN on the block but couldnt see a vin. Now I know why. Still, its a very nice car. Kevin

You shouldn't have seen a vin "behind the alternator". Most COPO Camaros and Chevelles do not have their original born with engines, many have "restoration" engines as they are being called today.

The asking price is much less than what top quality COPO Camaros have sold for.

I have not seen the car but it seems like a good price to me.

Gary had a Green/ Green COPO Camaro, at I believe SR5 OR 6 and it was a very well done restoration.

If It had its original engine , the VIN would have been on the vertical cast area by the oil filter.

Well Ive learned some things from this thread. I thought the VIN would have been on the front engine pad unless the engine was a dealer installation. Are all COPO's stamped by the filter? Nevertheless, it was great to have a supercar show up at a local cruisein. I remember Gary having the Green COPO. I had called him about some parts for my camaro a couple years back. As I remember he was working on a clone also. The only other COPO's I ever see in this area are the cars owned by Tony Young, but on a friday night he only shows up in nice drivers. Thanks for the info guys. Kevin

The VIN stamping is related to when the car was built, not the fact it happens to be a copo.
