I just love stupid people who make the cops jobs so much easier. He just committed a felony and doesn't even know it...yet.

Why is this a felony?
The guy who buys them could be the criminal, not the guy who salvaged these from a car about to be crushed. There is no intent to commit a crime, if he has and will continue to keep these in a frame like he said. -right? Only once they are used to create a car is that illegal. If I understand it correctly??? I am just trying to be clear, because I posess some trim tags, that I use as a verification database. Do I need to destroy my collection?? ![]() |

Though it's unlikely he will get prosecuted, the mere "offering" to sell a VIN tag is illegal. (it's a statutorily sacrosanct item) I would imagine that ebay will yank that ad in the near future. As for other actions, it is equally illegal to buy a VIN tag or sell one or install it on any car other than the one it was originaly riveted on at the factory.
Yes, Jeff you are safe in keeping yours...right next to your .44 Magnum by the bed. That is until the feds come to pry them out of your cold dead hands (Sorry, I was getting a little Charleton Heston-y there at the end) ![]() |

![]() ![]() My tags will always be safe. In fact, if something should happen to me, they will go directly to the FBI. A good friend is a Special Agent. (He collects them too) My wife already knows that he is to get my whole collection. ![]() |
