Default Cops cracking down on Street racing

Many of us have a place to meet and grab a burger or beer discuss cars and show off what we have. There is always an occasional idiot that can ruin the atmosphere. Apparently in Rockland County (Hudson Valley area) north of NYC some group has drawn some attention it's not going to enjoy.

Except for the very last line, that story reads like it's *not* about the racing at all...

How can they legally write a summons for drag racing if you are parked in a parking lot!

They cant. All of the tickets will be thrown out if they are for racing. Loitering/trespassing is another thing.

I remember years ago getting pulled over by a local cop (who I later found out was having a very bad day having just been chewed out by his captain) Anyway, I was going all of 20 mph in my Camaro, stuck in traffic behind a farm truck and the officer actually tells me he's going to give me a ticket for speeding because as he saw it, if the truck wasn't there, I would have been exceeding the speed limit. I took the ticket and turned around and drove back to the police station and handed it to the captain and asked him if he wanted my attorney or his to handle this one. He looked down at what the officer wrote on the ticket: "Intent to speed", shook his head and then told me I was free to go. We never saw that officer around the town again.

I guess we now know he must have become the captain in Nanuet, NY.

In NY the Motor vehicle law still has exceptions where it can be enforced. However, a Mall is described as private property with "public access" - these are the two key words that open the doors for enforcement in some areas. But to make it easier if a couple people were dumb enough to drag race in a Mall parking lot. I can think of a few crimes they may be charged with - ie; reckless endangerment. That presents a whole new ball game. Anyway, the paper indicates the problem with the drag racing is on the highways and Town nearby.

Back in the day...I had a SS396 Nova(no shocker there) and the local town cops knew the car and driver all to well...so, when I bought it from that guy I got pulled over the first day for no apparent reason. When I questioned the cop he wanted to know "where is the other guy that usually drives this car?"...I told him that I was the new owner. His response was "well then, we will be keeping an eye on you now!"

That nonsense in Nanuet sounds like an advertisement for a 1950's hotrod movie....you know the kind; " wild cars, wild nites and wild women....where will it end?"

I agree that drag racing on the streets is very dangerous and it is getting out of hand.the police needs to crack down on illegal street racing. If you want to race then take it to a drag strip.Every week you hear of innocent people dying from wrecks caused by illegal street racing.I like to play and burn my tires like everyone else, but if I am going to race someone it is going to be on the street. Now in Texas they impound your vehicles and all kinds of stuff that you don't want to happen if you are caught racing on the streets. It still goes on but a lot of people go to the track.Friday nights after 10:00 pm is even Ricer night and seems like thay all show up to do some racing! Im for cracking down on Illegal Drag Racing on the streets but not for busting people gathering in parking lots just talking and showing there rides off. Now if you get caught burning the tires in th eparking lot,or when you leave then SHAME ON YOU!
