Default Wounded Warriors...

Just wanted to pass on some hometown news about an event that Karen was involved with. This is the 3rd year that Windham Ski Mountin has hosted a weekend for disabled veterans and their families. The Adaptive Sports Foundation in conjunction with the Wounded Warriors Project hosts a weekend of skiing and fun for our disabled heros. All of these soldiers are veterans of the Iraq conflict and come to this special event to help regain their confidence and be part of a "normal life".....their courage and spirit are incredible given the nature of their handicaps....the event was covered by the media and had great support locally here in NY.....I will try to post pictures tomorrow....I am so proud of her involvement and even more proud of the brave veterans who came out to "face down' their challenges on the slope.

That is AWSOME! These Wounded Men and Women HEROS Deserve plenty! They gave so much so we can maintain and enjoy the Freedom we have.My heart goes out to these wonderful people. They maintain such positive attitudes while going through such debilitating Injuries.I don't know that I could stay so positive going through something like that.Wilma,I do not know you or your Wife but what She is doing is a WONDERFUL thing,She must be an ammazing Lady! You are a very fortunate Man to have a Wife like that! God bless all Our Troops and the people that help and care for them!

We have an organization like that here, but it's open for all people with disabilities. Very good folks. They have many Vets that participate.

Karen sends her thanks to all the SYC folks for their kind comments. Here is some additional info she provided about some of the vets who have become ski instructors!!

wilma

These are the 5 soldiers who became adaptive ski instructors this week---they passed their PSIA(Professional Ski Instructors Assn.)Level 1 certification for adaptive skiing and received a bronze pin. It's a 2-day exam that tests your knowledge of skiing and teaching. They took this because they wanted to teach other soldiers how to ski.

The two soldiers in the front(L-R: Mark Mix and Heath Calhoun) ski siting down in a mono-ski. Mark's spinal cord was severed in an attack and Heath lost both legs in an explosion. The 3 soldiers in the back(L-R: Damion "Jake" Jacobs, Jeff Adams and Ed Salau) all lost a leg and ski as "3 trackers". They are all very exceptional individuals.
