Rick/Eric
Growing up there was a junk yard I went to just about every saturday morning faithfully. This was a third gen operation going back to the 30's.For some reason the father who I called pops had a thing for the cowl tags, vins and titles, especially gm products. Always told me the insurance company he got the cars from told him to remove them when the cars hit the yard. We thought it was just to keep him busy and around the barns so left him go do his thing. Regardless he had what I seen two boxes at least two feet square filled with titles with the vins and cowls tied to them.Chevelles, camaros you name it When they closed about 10 years ago he asked if I wanted them or if they were of any value to anyone and I remember both his son and I saying no pops throw them out. For the hobby Thank GOD we did but I think now he would Kill me if he ever finds out what they are selling for on e-bay.These would have been canadian produced cars that gm would have provided full docs for.Talk about a clone issue |

Unfortunately, the insane $$$ that such items bring seems to push people past their "point of integrity", and they yield to temptation. It's really sad that money has brought out such a dark side to this hobby...er...business...er...hobby...heck, I don't know what to call it anymore! ![]() The thing that matters to ME the most is this; at the end of the day, I'm able to lay my head down with a clear conscience. I agree and very nicely put Eric!.
Similar situation but without the tags, back in my boneyard days I had boxes with titles from literally thousands of Canadian cars scrapped over about a 30 year period...1950-1980?. Here in Ontario Canada where it's a simple thing to obtain a new title for anything plus the availability of those magical GM docs and today's repop tags, they'd be a very dangerous thing today!. Thankfully I used them for the only thing they should have been used for...lighting the woodstove in the shop!. ![]() ~ Pete |

Oh I am very glad they are gone and would do the same today.
Wonder why the bone yards kept the titles back then Pete. Funny we mention integrity. A few months ago. I commented on a post and mentioned getting burned on a 70ss chevelle rag I found in the woods while hunting. Guy next door told his buds and they went in and stripped it. I had three e-mails asking if the tags were still on the car and how much I wanted for them.If I ever get back to the woods they will be gone forever. You can probally help me here Pete. Seems a few guys brought cars back from the US as parts over the years to beat the duty and taxes and have restored the cars but now cannot register them in Canada. We have brought a few cars over the border but never as parts so I am not familiar with this. Have you heard of any similiar situations. One car is a sin 67 black/black 396 4spd chevelle totally done and cannot register it. Why anyone would do the car over without a clear title is beyond me. |
