Default Atlantic City Auctions - 1980's

[b] The auctions in Atlantic City over Presidents weekend used to be held in the old
Convention Center. The same stage that Bert Parks sang to Miss America would hold the cars
that we love. There was a certain charm when the auctions were there that the new center
just can't carry off. Spaces were a lot cheaper then and anyone could afford to get a spot
on the floor to sell their car or parts. There were bargains to be had, deals and finds to be made.
Not that the newer shows aren't good, its just so commercialized and expensive now
you don't get the variety of regular guy stuff. Its mostly the big time parts vendors
selling repop merchandise. I guess my being a flea market scavenger always comes through!

[b] Fireball 500 movie car by Barris Customs - 66 Plymouth Barracuda - 426 Hemi 4 spd.
This car was found rotting behind an auto body shop in NJ and was restored in the mid eighties.
It crossed the block twice that weekend in '87 and was a no sale.

The blue mid-year roadster was made for Bill Mitchell, and is now part of the Bob McDorman collection in Columbus.

[b] By the late eighties the composition of the show was changing.
A lot less of the old old cars and much more muscle!

You could probably buy that whole row for what
the Vette would cost you today
