I'm not sure...but this may be a part of a much larger Dealersip sign...similar to this Studebaker Dealership sign shown here....

I think that was made in the 40's and did screw into a can similar to the one in your second pic,but I have never seen it mounted under a sign fixture like that.
I once found one of these in a local bulk plant storage building used as a lid on a container for oily rags. |

The Chevrolet sign that is similar to the Stude is from about 1940. I had the pleasure to see a NOS one (dated 1940) light for the second time in 67 years.. just a week ago.Very cool sign....
