Excelent article about Nickey in "Muscle Car Review". Bought it to read about Bob Tasca and Dean Gregson, as I know them well. And Really enjoyed the info on Nickey. Nice to see some things just keep going, and going, and going.
Seems like Stefano is the only one who never really stopped, despite the presures of Govt. Insurers and Industry. Way to go.

[/ QUOTE ] While I have been a "Nickey" Enthusiast for many years, frame off restored my first Çamaro in 1978 and made it a tribute to the Legendary "Nickey" Camaros, which ceased being built in 1977, when Nickey Chicago, the Speed Shop went bankrupt, I do not have a direct connection to the Nickey Dealership, which was sold in 1973. I became aware of the individuals/company who had legally secured the rights to the "Nickey" trade marks, when I had GMMG build my 2002 ZL1 Camaro, as a Nickey Tribute Car. The owners of the Mark, Little Detroit Collectibles, commissioned Bill Thomas for their own Nickey/ Bill Thomas 2002 Tribute Camaros. (Only 2) The Thomas' designed and built one bad a$$ 2002 Camaro. It produces over 1,000hp, to the rear wheels. The Collector who purchased the number one car, of two, also purchased the "Nickey" intellectual properties and trade marks. I purchased the Nickey Trade Mark from him and soon began the "New" Nickey business, once I resigned my Corporate position, with Auto Nation, in March of 2006. I hired, Don Swiatek and Ronnie Kaplan, who do have a direct connection to Nickey, back in the day, to help with the new Nickey Chicago, Inc. and Our Continuation Series vehicles. We Have Sold Nickey Continuation Series 1969 Chevelle VIN:001 and the Nickey Continuation Series 1969 Camaro VIN: 001. We are currently building, Nickey Continuation Series 1970 Nova 001, which will feature an Aluminum head, LS7 454 and Dual Quads (?), with a Stinger Hood, Nickey Wheels, plus a few other Nickey speed shop goodies. No one with a direct connection to Nickey and Super Cars was contacted for that article and it seems to down play the Scope and Magnitude of Nickey Chevrolet/Nickey Chicago. I feel that very little research was performed by an individual with very limited knowledge regarding Nickey. They even used a modern Nickey Hi-Performance Egg sticker instead of a correct Vintage one. The story on Tasca Ford seems well written and researched, I did enjoy that article. Nickey had no local peers, if any, when it came to building Conversion Cars. They had a dedicated staff of 5 Master technicians, the largest speed shop and Hi-Performance parts inventory, of the day, and GMs best back door engineers, at their disposal. |

At least it seems like you picked up the ball, and have run with it, and from what I have seen, You have run well. Keep it alive. P.S. I agree, they glanced over Nickey. Most were passing references, ie: Scuncio, Norwood. OK I am a Rhode Islander. Nickey was in a Class by itself, right there with Yenko, and maybe they will do a well researched article in the future. I will get the book mentioned above as it sounds like great reading. ![]()
