Default Syracuse car show

I have been going to this show for about 5 years now and
and the first time I realy enjoyed the show especially
at night in front of our hotel when some cars smoked the tires at the stop lights. This went on for 2 or 3 hours.
The cops stood by and were watching that things did not get out of hand.Great show.no one was hurt and the cops were out there catching the real criminals.

Then last year a new sherrif in town decided that he was going to crack down on these holigans with cameras at the roof tops and 10 squad cars at our intersection alone. everyone was hasseled and tickeded. Some were handcuffed and their cars were towed away.
this year the cops continued with thier crack down and as a result the show this year saw a lot fewer people. In the evenning only a few cars were cruseing as we were watching
the cars going by.
Too bad was a real nice show.

The Sheriff is doing his Job......Look at the Pro Mod car that crashed into a crowd and killed 6 people.......Lifes changed in a heartbeat because people were having "Fun"........I'm not against having a good time.....But...After you go to enough of these events.....It's only a matter of Time before "Fate" steps in and "Stupidity" takes over......Like it or not....The Sheriff did the right thing and "Controlled" the situation........my $.02

+++ Ken +++ I agree, when show's are going on the guys running the show should find a safe place for folks to take there rides out, and enjoy them , not on the streets, like they did here in my state .. Kasey

We've had an annual cruise night for over 20 years in the town where I work. In the early years it was safe to hit the streets for a couple of passes the length of town, and there were some NICE vintage musclecars participating. About four years back an incredibly straight, unrestored (survivor) Super Bee was sitting at a stop light when a ricer of some sort (who cares) plowed into the back of him after a stupid front-wheel burnout. That kinda killed it for me, and the following years we've seen fewer and fewer of the kind of cars we enjoy here on this site.
I still go to the event, but I'm just a spectator now.

And then there's LaHarpe. One of the many highlights of that show was the departure from the show grounds. Although not truly "Authorized", some 'burnouts' were expected and tolerated by the local constabulary. Again, one bad apple.............
Someone jumped the curb and ended up in the front yard of a home on the main street.
Fun is fun, but it has to be monitored and kept under control. An apology won't bring someone back from the grave!

I agree with Ken too. That parade tragedy broke my heart. Just a senseless act. I'm not a fan of burnouts at all but I can understand the attraction. Just keep them where no people or property can get harmed.

If you remember what happened at the end of SCR 9, someone doing a burnout exiting the building came close to having one of those "Malox Moments". The folks lined up on either side of the buildings back door were cheering everyone on. Most guys just squeeled the tires a little, since space was limited. All it takes is one guy with a I'll Show You attitude to screw things up. At $200 a tire, there are lots of reasons not to burn them up, not to mention what might happen to your drive train. I hope I'm not alone in wondering what the attraction is.
The Mopar Nationals are not the same since the cops cracked down, but they are still coming here every year.
The Goodguys show used to make the news because of bad behavior, but not anymore. Can you still have fun without the danger?
Ask your Allstate agent.

I agree. Remember, these are MACHINES and anything can happen at any given time i.e. stuck throtle, ball joint failure etc. etc.. that could send a car crashing into and killing innocent by standers.

Keep this stuff on the track where it is safe i.e. crowds in stands behind concrete barriers.

Hell, If I where a cop I'd shut it down too as my responsibility is to ensure public safety.

So does that mean that all you members out there never squeel your tires beacuse your car will go out of controll
and kill some ?? Give me a break. How many drunk drivers were on the street that night in Syracuse and were not caught because all the cops were out checking licence plate lights.Get those crazies yes but be reasonalbe with everyone else. I say!! I like to squeel my tires a little when it safe to do it and I have been doing it since I was 16 years of age.And will keep doing it till the day I cant shift the 427 Camaro anymore. And a few of the other cars I own.
thats my 2 and 1/2 cents Canadian= 2 cents American.

The problem is it takes just one idiot to ruin the whole thing. Not everybody has your attitude where they do a burnout where it is relatively safe.
I go to the Grand Rapids cruise here in Michigan and you have some people here that do some pretty wild things. This cruise takes place on 28th street in Kentwood, MI. People line up for miles on either side of the street watching cruisers. At a couple of the stoplights there are curbs where people, including children, sit and watch guys in there cars do burnouts!! These people are sitting 2-3 feet away of a car that if it let loose would probably hurt them pretty bad, if not kill them. To me that should not be allowed.
Point being in this rambling post, is most people are safe in what they do, but there are a few that are reckless and those people need to be stopped.
