Default Restamped Holley Carbs

Have these carbs been discussed here before? Restamped Holleys

This guy consistanly has them on there and blatantly represents them as original even though they still have the Holley tag and late style bowl bolts, etc. He sells them for big bucks and I'm sure most buyers think they are the real deal. That sucks in my opinion.

Think these might be coming from Holley already stamped??

Got a friend that has ordered new "reproductions" from Holley and told them he wouldn't take them unless they had a certain date on them. Guess what? They were dated the way he wanted when he got them. Still had the bolts holding on the bowls, had to change them to screws so they would look right.....

This is a very sore subject for me...the reasons why should be obvious. Despite what some might think, for me it isn't so much about costing us (restorers) business, it's moreso about people being decieved about what they're buying.

I've thought about posting up some info on how to spot these re-release carbs that have been stamped/re-stamped/whatever-you-want-to-call-it, but there's this nagging voice inside my head that keeps telling me I'll A) open myself up for potential litigation, which is a hassle I certainly do not need, B) p*ss off a few other people in this industry I really don't want to p*ss off, and C) be giving away some of the "secrets" to spotting these FAKES that the re-stampers aren't covering up which might inadvertantly help them better disguise their works.

For anyone who's uncertain if they're buying the real deal or not, there are numerous ways to spot one of these newer release carbs from an original. If you have any questions, ask and I will try to help...but do it privately. PM, email or call.

Eric

Why would your buddy want the carbs dated a certain way unless he planned on deceiving people. I replacement is a replacement right?

Eric, I agree with you 100%. Especially part 'C'. I know Alan Colvin is very guarded about some of the knowledge he has, justifiably so. But he was more than helpful to me when it came to identifying my car and some of the information that I had. Don't give up that info to the forgers out there...

I'm third hand info on this story and can't say who did what to who with any certainty. On the other hand, what happened at one time might not still be happening today. Then again, maybe it changes depending on the situation. All I really saw was the end result.

Yes Eric,

Posting images of the differences would only help the fakes
get better. Sad, but true. Similarly, I wonder how many
Camaros became SS models due to information found on boards
like this......

Nuch

Looks like he found 5 more new, never used Holley carbs with desireable production date stamps. This guy should buy some lottery ticket. Lucky SOB
