What is the correct location for the gas tank insulation( the long skinny pieces)? I see some unrestored 1970 Chevelles with the insulation on top of the straps and some on top of gas tank.

It's not really insulation,as it's really a friction material designed to hold the tank from shifting.
Between the trunk floor and the top of the tank was where they were meant to be placed originally. |
