Default Vin # on Block Above Oil Filter

I have a LS5 Engine out of a 70 Chevelle SS with the vin # stamped above the oil filter.
Could any one tell me if this Vin # stamped above the oil filter looks to be correct.
I was told that it looked like a re-stamp but there is no indication of any type of tampering grinding or over stamping.

Your picture isn't good enough to tell one way or the other.

The casting looks too smooth behind the 3602.

I know it is not a good picture. A few months ago my IPS decided not to give use any space to put pictures or any thing on any more so, I can't put a URL address in.
I wish I would have taken a few pictures after the block was washed and cleaned in that area before it was rebuilt and painted. The Block looked normal in the area of the stamp. No grinding or smoothing or over stamping at all. I did put a lot of paint on it when I painted it so the small picture makes it hard to see. but the question I have is I was told that the spacing between the 1 and F and the 5 vin numbers was wrong. The guy that rebuilt my engine even said that the block looked original that he did not see any evidence of over stamping or smoothing of the block in any way. I am just trying to find out if it is right or not.

Flint started their VIN numbering at 100001.
36021 doesn't make sense,if that's what that is.

Even if one were to go out on a limb and suppose that it should read '10F136021', it appears to me like there's an awful lot of space between the first number 1 and the letter F, and another awful lot of space between the letter F and the number 3 That said, I will categorically state that I cannot ever remember seeing any CON VIN stamp from the Flint assembly plant, so my comment may be totally without merit

Well I don't know what to think. I have the same question listed on other sites and am getting many answers. They range from not enough numbers to believe it or not it depended on the factory worker that was working that day as to the mood he was in. I how ever feel that if it was to be a forge or re stamp that some one did do. Then why would they have not done it right. To go to the trouble of trying to fool some one and not do it right would not make any sense.
I know how the blocked looked after it was washed in a hot bath and pressure cleaned. I even checked back with the mechanic again that rebuilt it and he remembers it well and said that the block almost looked like a virgin to him. Nice and clean he didn't have to machine any thing except the crank. He took only 10 thousands off. He also said again that he seen no evidence of tampering with the numbers or grinding of the block.
Well I think the best thing is to just enjoy the car and don't worry about it.
Thanks for the remarks and every one enjoy what you have.

Berk
