Default My new ride.72 SS402

Just picked up this 1972 Chevelle SS402 with 50K original miles. This 2 owner car came with a cowl hood, black bench,M20 4 SPD,3:31 12 bolt posi and Z15 SS package. It was painted once back in 1990.The 402 has headers and a Holley. It has a lumpy idle and is very quick for a 72 with only 240 HP.I think the motor was modded at one time.

I had it on the hoist today and noticed that shifter hole looks like it was cut with a torch even though it came from the factory with a 4 SPD.Has anyone seen this before?

Thanks.

The shifter hole in the Camaros was cut with a torch. I don't know about the Chevelles.

From what I read over the years is that all the 4-speed holes were cut open with a torch at the factory. All three of my cars were done this way. So, yours is correct... Very nice car you bought there. Like the white with black stripes, don't see many in white.

Hi Pete.
The car was sold out of Buffalo NY.It came with the GM Vintage forms.I thought cars had to be sold in Canada to get those forms.

I guess it was built in Canada to Qualify? Thanks for posting the pic.

Hey Ziggy Congrats on the purchase, white actually looks great for an SS !!

Any Chevelle Built out of Oshawa and Shipped out to the USA had records from GM of Canada.
Also any SS ordered out of Canada but built in a USA plant also got into the GM of Canada records or Microfiche system.
For an Example an LS6 or L78 ordered out of Canada in 1970 all built in USA plants (Oshawa only built L34 or LS5 that year) also had GM of Canada Records.
Even L34 or LS5 SS's built in USA plants but imported new into Canada had the GM of Canada Records as sometimes Chevrolet would use a USA plant to fill an order instead of the Oshawa Canada Plant.
And we all know the common scenario that all Oshawa Built Cars had Records being ordered from a Canadian Customer.
