Who was the original vendor for these hoods and are they still around? I am in the process of buying 2 "NOS" hoods from a guy. He says he bought them from the vendor that made them for GM. I just want to make sure these things are legit. Any specifics to look for? Thanks!

I believe they need a lip on the back edge of the scoop.

The original hoods are made just as the corvette pieces were. They are press molded. Meaning that both sides are smooth. The hairs are clearly visable just as a FRP (Fiberglass Reinforced Polyester) panel from a mid sixtes to 71 corvette panels are.
If you would like you could post or e-mail me pictures of them. And I'll compare them to the original hood I am restoring. I might be able to help you make a better determination if they are real. Rich ![]() |

What was the real story w/ these original hoods? . Wasn't there something about the Trans-Am guys running these then the sanctioning body said no 'til they built more as a counter item then they got to run them again? . And how many original ones were supposed to have been built?

Up until 69, the SCCA Trans Am guys were not allowed to run any kind of hood scoop. In 69, they were allowed to run a scoop that didn't interfere with the drivers vision - thus RPO ZL2 was made available.
How many originals were made in both single 4-barrel and duel-quad design is anyones guess. Note that there were early prototypes in both steel and fiberglass.

Wayne Guinn's book estimates around 100 fiberglass crossram hoods were made and who knows how many steel crossram hoods were made(probably less than 25).
