Default DIT - Damage in Transit...paperwork for someone?

Back in my days of working at car dealerships I'd sometimes get stuck with the job of checking in the arriving transport loads of new vehicles. . I disliked this job as the transport driver was never happy if you found something damaged also a bunch of D.I.T. paperwork would be your reward? . It was often easier to let small things go and let someone else find it later? .
Anyway, reading today's news of the ship in peril loaded w/ 5000 Japper cars heading for Canada made me think....somewhere some 'lucky' fella is hoping the ship doesn't make it to port? .
